Third European gold in a row to Sweden

Klas Lundberg of Celeres Nordica came to the European Championships as the defending champion with two gold medals from previous years.

New in this year's competiton was that the knights not only competed individually but also in teams. Besides Klas the other members of the Swedish team were two international debutants, Gunnar Cederberg and Per Nerlund, also members of Celeres Nordica.

After the initial skill-at-arms competition, the Danish knight Ole Bach was in the lead with Klas in second place and the other two Swedich riders a few points behind. In the joust competition Klas showed why he's regarded one of the best knights in the world and took almost every point. Not even Ole Bach with all the support of the Danish audience could withstand that force and the European champion was Klas Lundberg for the third time in a row.

Debutant Gunnar Cederberg, only 18 years old, amazed the European elite and ended in fifth place. The Swedish team was in the lead in the team competition for a long time, but in the finishing round the Danish team managed to push past them and the Swedish team got an honorable silver medal.
